That's mostly my point. Whether you're dealing with your local or remote folders, it's about UI responsiveness and how, what, when, and where the app pulls stuff in. Holy sh*t, I just stared at the .modest file directory. I could be wrong, but I don't think I am, but it seems that there's a one-to-one correspondence between folder/directory and letter/file. For that one guy, that would be 6000 files in one directory. Not good on any file system. I hope that's not the result of using standard sqlite.

Obviously, it's non-trivial to work with large textual data sets, especially when you also add in the ability to do full text searching . But this problem has already been solved, and it would be nice if the modest guys could just pull something off the shelf that works well with these device specs.

I thought I read that even the server-side portion of Google Wave is open source. If so, I bet there's some interesting stuff in there. Good luck to the modest guys.
