I'm all for a Google specific contact/calendar syncing tool.

Someone else mentioned that the code of this tool (which does google calendar/contact syncing for the GPE suite of apps) is well abstracted and it might be easy to plug in support for the Maemo 5 calendar-backend:

I haven't really had time to look much at code myself (in particular at the calendar-backend api), but would love to see this happen.
