This is a problem with the new Apple Airport Extreme.

Mine is a European version that was looking for channel 13 but my MBP is from the States. No problem though. You should be able to find plenty of access points to work with. Even with my WiFi sniffer, I have not seen anyone on a channel higher than 11.
