Other than what ? There is no 'standard' codec, unless you declare a standard with 'ships with the OS of my choice'. The problem is that the question is complex and the people are often asking the wrong question and then misinterpreting the results. When they say 'does it play .avi', the answer is 'yes, it is compatible with the .avi container format'. Then you get the 'but it doesn't work with my avi, you are wrong !'. However the question was worded poorly to start with, it should have been 'does it play back XYZ codecs in UVW resolutions which are distributed in an .avi container ?'. THEN you could answer with an unequivocal YES or NO, otherwise you can only guesstimate what the OP wanted to use.
