Err the thread you linked says you can.. it's just annoying because Nokia apparantly changed the way the keyboard was represented from Maemo 4 to Maemo 5 meaning you can only use the letters in the keyboard now.. (really really stupid of them).

And eww I also forsee alot of returns or warranty use for this USB issue.
