maybe its me, but I feel as though linux has gotten to a point where its not only developers who love using it, but regular consumers as well. i threw ubuntu onto my mom's netbook with all the software and functionalities shes used to and she can't even tell the difference between it and her windows desktop.

what i love about linux these days and osx (to some degree), is its ability to let you quickly/easy do what you want, but if you want to do a little bit more, fire open the terminal and go as you please.

so to have a mobile device that has that same state of mind is what sold the n900 to me. i def don't recommend this device for everyone, but im a person who loves tinkering (i don't really develop minus making quick shell scripts or python scripts to do certain tasks), and being able to fully have control of what i want on a device... sold sold sold!
