For responding so quickly with advice. I will do this, but please forgive me, I am a real newbie, so I am not sure what the 'xterm' is. Is this an application that I can/should install? Any help is appreciated!

Try to install that libraries from the xterm with apt-get install.
I had the same problem with the original version of gpe-calendar and I fix installing each one from the xterm and then install gpe-calendar from the deb.
