There is no such thing as 2.75G AFAIK. GPRS is 2G while EDGE is 2.5G and the N900 displays it that way, too.
G stands for "Generation" and is not a unit of speed measurement. 2.5G and 3.5G are simply speed-enhancements (software-upgrade on the carrier's side) based on 2G (GSM) or 3G (UMTS), respectively.
