This is the exact problem I've been trying to get some discussion on as well! However, not dealing specifically with UK yahoo accounts. (Mine was from yahoo.com accounts with Mail Plus status)
The answer everyone gives is to use nokia messenging. What everyone seems to not understand is that nokia messenging will not ALWAYS be free! Besides that those with pop3 ready email accounts should be able to use them without a sister service to enable it.
The phone should (AND CAN) be able to do pop3 email syncing.
The problem however is no matter how correct you set things up through the email client (even done manually), you get one of two errors:
1.) user name and password incorrect
2.) Server or ports not correct
I can assure you with 100% certainty that both my user name and password as well as server and port settings (as well as SSL and SA settings) are correct.
At this point I've concluded that the client simply does not interface with the servers correctly. Unless someone knows something I don't.
A fix on the client is needed.
