I've been converting huge .mpgs to .mp4s using FormatFactory to play them on my Nokia n900 ... while it seems to work pretty well during the fast scenes there is serious pixellaton ... is that just due to the MP4 compression (the files are tiny in comparison to the originals so I'm guessing there's a lot of compression going on) ... is it due to FormatFactor being a poor converter? ... is there a better file type that I could be using?

... and, is there any reason people keep suggesting iphone settings in this thread? ... surely the iphone's screen res is about half what the N900s is ... and isn't going to be that great when played through the TV out ... I went with an output setting of 800px width which looks great when there's not serious pixellation going on ...

... ideally I'd like to be able to play my original .mpg files on my n900 ... and after installing the codex support package this does kind of work for small files ... but, the number of frames played per second is low enough that you can see the individual frames ... there's also no way of forwarding through the file ... and with a film sized file the phone takes an age to open it (so long that I've not actually managed to open it!) ...
