N900 can acquire a position from the GPS without an internet connection...after the following tweaks:

change the location server to google.com, info here, http://talk.maemo.org/showthread.php?p=435977 thread #69

And leave the device alone, it will eventually acquire a position from 3 min to an hour, running eCoach may speed up a bit., Internet connection helps but not a requirement, see enclosed pics here.
