Tried the mild tap on the back and it didn't work.

Here are what I figure out using flip:

Take it out and flip the screen down on your other hand or leg(best solution so far)

If the phone is in your pant, then make sure the screen is facing your leg. When your receive a call, just grab the phone and tab it against your leg. It works but I get 50/50. Sometime you might accidentally accepted the call.

I think the silent/shock sensor is on the side with "N900" logo. Everytime I flip the phone and tap it with the N900 side, it would give me higher success rate. The "nokia" side with the camera would give me 100% failure rate.
