Definitely not. It's an excellent unit IMHO.

...its completely let down at the mo by the fact a lot of it doesnt work (pc-suite for a start, and OVI.) and apps are a bit thin on the ground.
Patience. These and more are coming. You're just an 'early adopter' like I was with the G1/Android. But the hardware/software situation is already much better for the N900/Maemo than it was for the G1/Android a month after it was released. And see where Android is now...

...i see that Maemo6 is on the way in 2010, so will by shiny new N900 be outdated and forgotten about before the contract im on is up???
No. There always something newer, better, shinier in the works. State-of-the-art stuff is state-of-the-art for about 15 minutes these days. Relax and enjoy your N900.

im completely inept when you guys talk about Xterminal etc.
For ordinary use you will likely never need to use a terminal. It's mostly for power users, customizing the device or, like in Windows, for trouble-shooting.

is it possible for Maemo6 to run on the N900 once its released?
Probably. But whether or not the N900 gets updated to Maemo 6, it will still b a fine device and function as well as ever. It won't quit the day Maemo 6 is released.

just hope my decision of a N900 over Iphone / HTC's was a wise one.
Unless it simply doesn't suit your needs at all, you've made a good decision. Relax, learn about your N900 and enjoy.
