A better analogy would be like driving a Porsche with the blinker still on. SMS is not as important nor essential as the transmission/gears on a car.

Seriously, that was reaching.

SMS being ol' tech... sure, it came about in 1985. As far as instant messaging goes, ICQ in 1996 - so you can see how now we're in need of something new.

But what's out there that's being adopted? So far... nothing has replaced this old tech. It works, the gateways and functionality is still supported.

E-mail from phones? C'mon... e-mail is even older than those aforementioned two technologies. This whole "it's old technology"... you're talking about GSM (1982) using e-mail (1961) and yet you regard SMS (1985) and MMS (2001 or so) as old tech?

Until there's a viable option to quickly share - without the UI being in the way - quick information with others and without logging in... then what are those options?

Stating that it's not used by people is sorely overlooking that SMS makes up some 4 billion plus bucks for businesses per year. I don't know the MMS numbers - been looking - but there is indeed a need for something to replace it instead of... nothing.
