Drdoom, you may have a voltage or impedance matching problem, ie, the two systems being incompatible. The N800 *may* be encountering an overload due to it. However, it's been decades since I was an electronics designer so the rust covering those brain cells my be confusing the details...

EDIT: the earth grounding of the stereo system may be involved. Your headphones use a floating ground.
