I shared your concerns and can say that the N900 is a worthy, but not perfect, spiritual successor to the C860. You can read my impressions so far here. There's not a lot of Z-specific comparisons yet, but i do have some to order and post (hopefully soon).

The screen is about the same width but not as high, and the keyboard not as good, but the size and networking and UI of the N900 have almost completely won me over regardless.

Classic example of arbitrary Nokia decision making. Couldn't just fallback to the no brainer of tagging with lat/lon if network isn't accessible, could you Nokia?
