I know that many people touching linux for the first time do tend to think that "opt" derives from "optimal" or "optimized" but the word root is actually "optional" - where optional data is stored, so everything not needed to actually run the base OS.

so a compromise for you might be to call it "optinalized" instead of "optified" but I guess as the term "optified" is already somehow established in these forums and is also shorter it will stay

I know that it isn't a "proper" word and I'd never claim it to be I don't have a problem with word creations as we all know Germans are quite good with making up weird artificially constructed words
