I wonder what "community" asked for the removal of this feature. It's funny that this "community" thinks that the way to make sure that content is more centralized is to force developers, rather than to make the central location more appealing to developers and packager. This "community" does not behave like usual free software communities do, rather like commercial companies (apple, archos, etc.)
