They should do what SEs do and have the first part of the headphones with the switch pluggable so you can dump the useless ones then send with the phone for your own decent ones.

Personally I recommend creative headphones.

Seinnhieser (SP) are too expensive and I don't think they perform well at all.
Skullcandys are also decent headphones.
Agreed, the free headphones are rubbish. They are 'muddy' and are the worst in-ears I've ever used. Even the knock-off Sony Ericsson ones I bought off ebay for a pound for my W800i were better!

The only good thing about the headphones is they have a very good fit.

I disagree about Seinnheiser. A pear of CX-300 can be bought for only £15 from Amazon (not the marketplace.) These are the same as the Creative headphones (Seinnheiser make them for Creative.)

Skullcandys are notorious for bad construction quality.

I now have a nice set of Etymotic HF-5, which are excellent (the HF-2 sadly doesn't work on the N900, as its for iPhones...)

Anyone still using the cheap rubbish that came free needs to get a pair of Seinnheiser, Shure, Klipsch, Etys or anything decent (even... Sony) and hear the difference!!!
