Hello everyone,

today i wanted to try writing an applet for my n900. I started by downloading the vmware image and thought i would be ready to go but NOOO. It is an outdated version of Ubuntu and the maemo sdk doesn't work out of the box.

So what to do? I updated Ubuntu to 9.04 and changed the repos (which are all outdated) to jaunty then i tried to install the newest maemo-sdk with the installer.py but everytime i started the script it gave me another error i could fix and try again. The error I'm stuck on right now is that i can't install the 2007q3 toolchain it always gives me:

2010-01-18 15:24:52 (638 KB/s) - `/tmp/.maemo-download-5529/cs2007q3-glibc2.5-i486-i486-pc-linux-gnu-i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.tar.bz2' saved [7955/7955]

Uncompressing and extracting '/tmp/.maemo-download-5529/cs2007q3-glibc2.5-i486-i486-pc-linux-gnu-i686-pc-linux-gnu-3.tar.bz2'...

maemo@maemo-desktop:~$

i have bzip2 installed so i don't know what the **** is wrong with this crap.

After spending approx 4 hours just trying to get it running and not even beaing able to create a simple "Hello World" i'm really pissed and i think you should maybe update your sdk vms to a state where everything runs fine out of the box.
