Update: In addition to the network settings not showing any sign of response, I now find that the sd card cannot be read.

When I run an ifconfig command, the only interfaces I see are lo and phonet0. Tried an ifconfig wlan0 up and I see the wlan0 setting, but there's still nothing going on.
