yes. you can downgrade to a working version.
somebody in this thread explained it a few sites back.

Code:

1. sudo gainroot
2. apt-get install purple-extra-protocols=2.6.3-6nix0
3. apt-get install libpurple0=2.6.3-6nix0

you have to got "rootsh" installed for the first command ^^
