debernardis: Well done. It looks like we only had OpenOffice because they use a kludgy workaround, which no longer works.

The Ubuntu bug is wonderful! It gives us a workaround! All you need is to copy one file from a working openoffice.org install to the broken one, and everything works again!

The magic file is: /usr/lib/ure/lib/libgcc3_uno.so

I have tested and confirmed that this works. Also, it seems like the upgraded version starts a lot faster for me!

EDIT: I definitely see the speed increases you were talking about with the new version. One minute to a responsive OpenOffice writer document!
