"basic" things that work well on nokia symbian phones, but not on n900

ovi maps is not, i guess it will never be a great navigation software ... and ... we know maemo's ovi maps application needs time to catch up with it's symbian sister ... but nokia should give us signs that they are working hard to match them!!!

Not really I was expecting a stable device and mainly got it.

The "beta" version of the n900 was given to developers and a select few months before the n900 was offically released.

Yes, the phone functionality is basic by today's standards but it has been stable for me and works consistently.
I'm quite happy using the phone app and the sms app too. Of course new features will be welcome!

As a mini Linux computer it is superb!

If Nokia keep updating and improving the n900 then eventually the phone app should improve and gain new features.
