No, this shouldn't be done on the N900. You set the DNS servers in the Advanced configuration dialogue of the Internet Connection settings (Settings, Internet Connections, Connections, Edit, Next, Next,..., Advanced, IP Addresses). resolv.conf should always point to 127.0.0.1
