In terms of upgrades, do you mean the distribution (i.e. the base image on the device) or just new minimo versions? If it's the whole OS, you'll need to flash the device using the flasher tool, USB cable, and a PC.

To upgrade software like minimo, you don't have to uninstall it first. As new versions come out, they'll appear under the "check for updates" section of application manager. Just click to upgrade.
