Skype isn't fully open source, although they have opened it up for Linux.

It plays music files, videos, allows access to the web, has Flash inside of a full-blown browser, takes pictures, can e-mail said pictures (via POP3 and IMAP) and supports Facebook, IM, and Skype.

Has a microphone, a speaker, and a screen. Those all say "multimedia"; the functions may be rough... but it does the above. My expectations stop there. The UI, the experience is all up to the user if they like it or not. And things that are lacking... it's up to the person if they're satisfied or not.
