Looking at the comparative resources table, I get the impression that Maemo has a lot to bring to this marriage in terms of community warmth. You can take credit for some of that (through things like the greeter programme).
If this is going to work, it's going to need community-focused leaders right from the get-go. I'm really glad you are there on the council to speak up for the community element
before
the hows and whys are decided.
Right now there are a lot of faintly hurting people, from council members who feel they weren't told, developers who wonder what they'll be working on in six months time to end-users wondering what the heck they just bought. A fair number of us will be feeling "Oh just sod it!" tonight and preparing to walk away from a community we thought we were part of that just mutated into something else. It's the strong bonds we already have that will keep people from doing that and hold us together.
Quit if you must, once you know what you are quitting, though some of us would rather you stayed into a second council term. But right now, we need to hold hands in this uncertain dark and stick together.
