Yes, the Axim line is dead and Dell has as much said so. It was the best PDA for along time.

I talked with one ISV (Independent Software Vendor) that makes software for handheld devices and gives it away -- they are not open source, but their program binaries are FREE. I asked if they would be interested in developing a version for the N800 (they provide free binaries for a LOT of handheld platforms). They looked into it and got back to me and said that the software license agreement in the Nokia 800 development kit was too ambiguous -- they were afraid that they would have to give away their source code.

I would like for open source, non-open source, and for-profit entitities to all be able to easily make software for the N800 and use whatever business model they prefer. This is the way to get the largest software base.
