I think by what he meant is:

if portrait is coming to the device via update or so, the sale of the N900 will be boosting a bit. Why? because most people got turn off by the device cannot be using using one hand to text or operate like the rest of the touch screen devices out there in the market.

This may lead to less chance of the device being bought and lead to lower the price to attract more customers.
