@johnel (on pg 79)
The fact that there's now an easier route for more developers to make these devices and with Intel supporting it is exactly why I didn't just quit reading this site. I expect that either Nokia will feel the pressure to make a better device or someone else will but either way, I fully intend to pick up one of these maemo moblin qtopia monstrosities ASAP after they come out

@flydeep (also pg 79, RE: influencing friends)
I demonstrated my N900 to quite a few people and showed them all the neat stuff it did. I had it on EDGE and it *still* impressed people. And I never failed to mention that there was an unresolved issue with the power port.

The fact that something as blatantly obvious will be needing the threat or action of a court is beyond ridiculous. I expected and hoped that this problem would have been resolved shortly after I returned my device and that I would feel like an idiot and wait for the next sale on Dell or something.

For everyone's sake, I'm still hoping to feel like an idiot in that regard but I am sad to say I think I made the right choice.

As for a solution to the problem goes, I'm not an engineer of any sort but I've built electronics as a ham and the rule was always to never rely on the solder for structure. Every device I own that has a microusb port has a lot of support from the plastic housing of the device itself. I can understand cutting costs but when my $2 OEM flash card reader seems better built than a $500 phone... I just don't know what to say about that.
