In my opinion all community driven distros catch the ball and the company driven dont. I saw Suse, Fedora, Redhat, Mandriva, Debian, Ubuntu, Maemo, Mer and so on. I use Debian for any instance but am open for others, what I learned over time is that every time I come across a distro using .rpm is that it wont fit me. Why? I used fedora for about one year, while I was getting to know debian better. this doesnt explain the 'why'? ok, what about compatibility? most linux newcomers start with 'buntu' (yeah shouldnt use that word I know), or with derived distros like mint or something you just boot and it works out of the box. most of the stuff you find is manageable in THE 'debian-way'! that didnt work for me THE '<put in rpm based distro>-way' as there is no such way. merging maemo with some other linux should keep the debian-way as the debian-way-**user** base is growing (we are not talking about company-servers here, are we?).
what distro do you use?
I dont care!
I care about the crowd for whom I do serve as community member!
In my opinion a MeeGo has to come from the ashes of Maemo and Moblin.
"We have an already working core we developed 2 years and we have .rpm build system which works just fine!"
I dont care!
Alien those rpms if you like to! but please dont pick what is less work! Pick what is best for the users.
It might be more work to have Moblin integrated in Maemo but it is worth it. (looks like Moblin is getting the Qt-UX-UI engine and thats it, from what is talked)
btw I first thought 'cool'... now I am concerned as this looks like another company ridden horse. And as it is, community has to pick the colour of the powermenu nothing more.
Doing this not the Debian-way will be at least one finger cut off from maemo-community.
For the first guy telling me off because of the usage of rpm and deb as equivalent to Redhat-based and Debian-based: its not about the packaging you troll, its about the gods linux people believe in!
