my guess is that you need to reimport your server's certificates, which very likely have been renewed during the upgrade.

here's a post from someone with the same error messages ("unable to read string value"), and updating the certificates seemed to have eliminated that specific problem for him (though he did have other issues after that).

deleting and recreating the MfE account on the N900 as rob1n suggested might solve the certificate issue.
