I think it's better to start here. (as indicated below, please just read for now.)
Please use search (on the forum) before you ask questions.
Please thank the forum participants and sponsors.
you will need the "drop-bear" packages installed (search) and running at each start of the 770. (pretend this is a scavenger-hunt) The instructions for this are on the maemo and 770 sites. These packages let you connect from another machine on your (in-the-house) network. what happens where you work WILL NOT be addressed.
start looking and don't send questions yet.
in the short-term, you should look at .profile changes (search) or you will have to type (or "handwrite") a lot of stuff each time... (explaining "each time" will discourage me from continuing.) copying files to the MMC and changing them with windows did not work well for me. please look at the posts and try to understand what is involved. (in linux, the "current directory" is not searched for the program you are trying to run. hint: the changes to .profile allow programs installed after you get your 770 to run without telling the 770 where to find them {that would be all the BS we are trying to eliminate here.}
download and install the winscp program to your windows computer. no warranty is expressed or implied: later instructions now make this program essential.
you will not need to "gainroot" or "become root" in the senses shown in most of the messages here.
you will need to install Xterm, but you won't need to understand it.
if you need to change "modes" of the 770, it will be absolutely necessary. I don't see this as necessary.
you will not need to know about any linux editors nor will you need to install vim or any other stuff you don't understand.
the object is to:
1. make some changes to the 770 to give you control and expand how you can use it.
2. minimize the changes you need to make by making the next step simple.
3. make most changes via your readily available WLAN link to a windows computer. (sorry. )
4. make what you need to do (and what you have done) understandable by including explanations along with the commands (or processes) you need to do.
5. make the changes you have made easy to re-do after re-flashing your 770.
6. make you understand that you can break the 770's software and that it's easier than you think.
Carefully read most-everything before you post. This will save a lot of time for everyone. The only filter I have is to ignore.
Anybody interested?
