ok after some more tests I've seen that the popup blocker has no effect with opera crashing. However I have figured out that if I block all popups, links won't open in a new window, then I can use the context menu to open the link in the existing window instead of it auto opening in a new window. That seems to help stablize things, but opera still crashes now and again.
