I experienced this, too. It looks as if the widget is not UTF8 capable. Maybe a new widget has been introduced?

And Second, switching between articles (in portrait) by sweeping your finger left from right or right from left, dosen't work correctly. Its feels like not all the screen recognizes the sweeping gesture.

I experienced this, too. However if the sweep is long enough it works, but looks not very smooth (meaning it does a rather hard transition) leading to a worse user experience than before.
