it all boils down to where u live/work. whenever i'm in an area that has a population of 200k+, there's 3G or 3.5 easy.
it's not scientific or anything, but I can judge whether I'll have 3G or not based on the size of the metro area of wherever it is that I'm going. t-mo rolled out quite a bit of 3G service in 2009 and I've been very pleased.
a plus for t-mo is that I've found their customer service to be world-class so far since 2008
