I also have G5, but you still can't make free outgoing calls through GV without jumping through hoops. With Sipsorcery it is all free and seamless. Once you get it set up properly, you can just call like you normally would, and as long as you have an internet connection, you can place calls for free.



I set the same thing up on my N800, and although the built in softphone wasn't great, I was able to make free calls.


N900 is much better for all of this, especially if you have a data-only cell plan.
