So you want linux on your PC? I would suggest Ubuntu (or Kubuntu which uses KDE desktop environment instead of gnome and I myself like KDE better) since it's very user friendly and based on Debian like Maemo.

You can use Open office instead of MSWord (which can also be used with WINE) and there's lots of CD burning software with nice GUI for linux.
