Thanks Ukki, works a treat when I disable SSL. Not sure what my SSL problem is though. I thought I'd installed the customised libsoup (also with no ill effects elsewhere). I'll play around with it some more later on, maybe I didn't install it properly.

EDIT: Re-installed the updated libsoup as per the Wiki and SSL works very well - doesn't seem to slow things down noticeably and no problems with other apps. Many thanks!
