The E61, the E71 (nokias most popular handset) not to mention the majority or RIM handsets all have landscape. The E75 has a keypad for portrait primary operation so the QWERTY keyboard is not the primary accessible input mechanism, it's also primarily a phone: not the same use case.

The point is that portrait or landscape have their own uses. For the stated use cases envisaged for the N900 the choice of landscape is considered best. If you don't like it then get over yourself.
Cleary, now you're just arguing for the sake of arguing.

There is nothing that hinders the n900 from being what it is, whilst being in Portrait. I'm not saying discard Landscape completely. I'm saying it'll be there when it's needed. Simply the reverse of what is forced now. The "envisaged" uses for the N900 are not from another world. They are the same for other devices. Internet, Browser, SMS, terminal.....Landscape can be an option for any on these. but there is no strong reason for the Menus and home screen to be in landscape.

E61, E71, RIM all have landscape modes. but main is portrait
