I'd hate for you to feel alone! I am trying to point out that your opinion, as no reasoned case has been put yet, is no more valid than the existing one. The majority of users I have met are happy with landscape as the main mode. Even iPhone and iTouch users seem to spend a large portion of their time using the device in landscape rather than the default portrait mode.

Internet, Browser, SMS, terminal.....Landscape can be an option for any on these. but there is no strong reason for the Menus and home screen to be in landscape.

There is nothing lost with the default landscape and portrait either.

Most of the web (if you mean that by the internet) is actually orientated for landscape not portrait.
One of the raved about features of the original RIM handsets was that the secreen was wide enough to read emails and sms in a more 'natural' format. Most latin based charactersets are designed to be read in horizontal lines. Kanji is another debate altogether I'll grant you.
Terminal, try telling any serious user that portrait is preferable for that.
