Safely remove the hardware from the PC.
There should be an USB arrow telling you that the USB is connected, click on it then it will tell you if you want to safely remove the USB device(s) from the computer.

This will do the trick.

Otherwise, turn off your device and plug it into the PC through USB mode, it will mount as Storage Device. This will not effect the system files on the device. Because the device is not fully active.
