Oh... your instructions for the hildon.menu still show <MergeDir>hildon/</MergeDir>

It didn't work until I changed it to <MergeDir>Grimm/</MergeDir>

I just wanted to add that in case others try to follow along.
this is because you put your custom .menu in /grimm

if you had put it in /hildon it would would have worked as is.
so for future reference, you can just put your custom .menu's in the /hildon directory.
