Exactly my conclusion, though for a different reason. I was obsessive about keeping my n800 protected--giving up touch screen responsiveness (by using a screen protector) and ease of use (by using one of those fancy, but unwieldy, leather cases). In the end, my n800 is in perfect condition after almost three years of use--but it is now languishing, long-forgotten, boxed up somewhere in my basement.

I love my n900, but I've come to the realization that someday even it will be replaced by something shinier and better. I don't begrudge anyone for using a screen protector, though--you simply have to do what suits you, what works for me won't necessarily work for you...
