These days, I routinely disable all the catalogs in App Mgr except the updating catalog, and it gives me a large bonus in rootfs space that seems to make my system run faster in general.

Then when I want to update or add new stuff I activate just one more catalog (such as Extras-testing) and look thru to see what's on offer. When I'm thru, I disable that catalog and might go on to another one.
