the handset direct from vodafone is not locked, it just uses a firmware with a different number.
if OP got such a bill sounds like he roamed onto another network instead of using wifi.
there is no branding in the current vodafone version firmware that i can find, even fAPN lets you add other apn's as expected.
using wifi (ie a network to access internet) switches off gprs data network so does not count on your bill from vodafone.
the repositories work just fine, all of them apart from the current batch of apps with unsatisfied dependencies which should not be allowed in my opinion.
