Thanks in advance and N900 rocks!
My car's stereo (a Mazda 3 Sport) offers BlueTooth Audio that works beautifully with the N900 and connects as soon as I turn on the ignition.. I can then play/pause/skip tracks using the steering wheel controls (or the controls on the centre console, obviously)

The BT Audio functionality is really just a nice offshoot of the BlueTooth hands-free system in the car. If you've got anything similar in your car, you should look to see if it supports the A2DP profile and you might be able to do something similar.. Sometimes it's even possible to upgrade the software in the audio system to support things like that, so checking with the BMW dealer or enthusiast forums might be a good idea.

Otherwise, as others have said, the FM-Transmitter in the N900 will let you listen to your music without needing any wires as long as you can find an open frequency.

IMO the biggest drawback with FMTX is that you need to use the media player controls on the N900 to switch tracks, etc., and they are NOT driver friendly.
