to not launch anything:
1) In Xterm type:
gconftool-2 --set --type bool '/system/osso/af/launch-on-camera' 'false'

OR

2) using Gconf-Editor, uncheck "launch-on-camera" in:
system/osso/af

Edited 1) to use gconftool-2
