I find N900 photos to be pretty good. Of course compared to a real camera they are not that good, but they are on par with consumer point and shoot compact cameras.

The photo is overall pleasant even though the lighting was very challenging. The camera correctly exposed the subject while blowing out the well lit highlight to the right (the Yamaha sign). The obvious defect is pixel binning and resulting flat feel to the image. However this is pretty usual with most dedicated compact cameras so I am not too concerned since I personally do not distinguish between which one is less bad. If I want a good photo I use a DSLR or a larger format digital camera (eg. my old but still awesome Fuji 6500).
The best aspect of the N900 camera performance is very good exposure consistency and choices it makes. Focus is pretty spot on most of the time, even when the subject is very dark.
